This dear lad has been with us since the very beginning of our labors for the children. There was a time when his mother took him far away to live with his stepfather in another province, and for a few months we did not know of his welfare. Yet, we kept him ever before the Lord in prayer. In His gracious answer, He brought the boy back to our location again.  At the beginning of this year, we thought it best to move his age group into a more serious Bible study on Knowing God. Since the start of 2025, the church has been in constant prayer, asking the Lord to grant us even just one fruit from this labor—one child who would desire to join us in worship. The Lord graciously answered. Some months before the year ended, one of the lads began asking to stay for worship after every children’s class. He has been in fellowship with us since then. The close of the week saw a proper bout of illness amongst our group. It seemed the Lord's better judgment to afflict our bodies, and my voice was taken away for a few days. Thus, the street meetings—which we had hoped would bear such good fruit—had to be moved once more. It is peculiar how simple things were when we kept to our indoor meetings; we hardly missed a gathering for simple interference. But now, taking the Word to the public, it is constant. If our health does not fail us, the rain pours. The path to public duty seems ever paved with resistance, be it from the body or the weather. These petty ailments and sudden showers, are but pebbles in the path, mere obstacles we simply step over in the grand march of faith. When one is but halfway through a jungle trail, the path may appear, to the frail senses, to lead to no clear destination; yet, we know by faith that every such trail possesses a certain end. And so it is with our present labor. Our own spiritual trail is clearly marked: it leads directly to Christ accomplishing His redemptive work through the very lives of the dedicated teachers, and all for the precious sake of the children entrusted to our care. If it is indeed our sacred duty to compel men to come into the Kingdom—to bring them by force of conviction into the Gospel fold—then the very same necessity and urgency must be applied to the young children, whose souls are yet tender and whose hearts are yet open to the call of the Savior.  Mary's back was to her class as she wrote a lesson on the board for her students. The faithfulness of God continually bears blessed fruit! To be so privileged as to serve our King and Lord by carefully teaching these young minds concerning the excellencies of Christ is an experience of profound and incredible humbling. In the month of May of the year two thousand and twenty-three, the Lord's work commenced with but eight students; today, we are blessed to number twenty-one. In the months that have passed, some few have departed or were drawn away by their parents to attend the conventional Roman Catholic mass, yet many more still came in their stead, proving that the work is of God and not man. When we first arrived upon this field, we prayed fervently that our Heavenly Father would open doors for us to share the Gospel with the families dwelling within this compound. We are currently teaching covenant theology to the children starting from the Pactum Salutis. God has been so gracious as to provide the wisdom to translate this deep subject into simple language in order to communicate it well to the children. Covenant Theology is pivotal in giving us a coherent picture of the plan of redemption that culminates at the cross of Christ. It answers many questions and unifies what may seem to be disconnected stories of Scripture into one seamless and majestic revelation of the eternal God's grand design. Our goal is to explain the promise, necessity, and reason for the coming Messiah and His work in redeeming us to the Father, according to His eternal will. We are pleased to hear each precious soul, from the eldest to the youngest, recite scripture. May it please the LORD to preserve these blessed children unto salvation for His name's sake.

This Sunday was a review of the lessons from the past month. The children who have been with us for fourteen months have responded so wonderfully to the catechisms that I cannot begin to praise God for deepening the children's understanding. The Old Testament's main ideas, starting with the Genesis' prophecy of the coming Messiah up to Joshua, required about a year to study. Much grace has been given to the teachers who put their hearts to pray for the children, and going the extra mile by burning the midnight oil, studying for the lessons, often well into daybreak. It gives me great joy in encouraging them that their labors in the LORD are never in vain, and that they have been given the privilege of shaping these minds who would one day, Lord willing, be granted saving grace. Father doth bless the work by turning the ministry of the Children’s Church in a more experiential direction: seeking to implant in the little ones a consciousness of the deep, humbling reality of the heart’s corruption, even in their tender years. We are forced, hourly, to acknowledge that we are totally inadequate to communicate the glorious salvation of Christ with the requisite power, and thus we know that our strength and help cometh from the LORD alone! We grieve to report that the cruel affliction of molested children is lamentably common in this locality—a silent plague where, tragically, the parents and immediate relatives are often found to be the heinous offenders. With fear and trembling, we taught the children that their innocent bodies were a gift bestowed by the Lord to be theirs alone, and that no other person, save their own mothers in needful instances, should touch or gaze upon them in parts that ought to be private. Behold the lamentable absence of an affection for God amongst the toddlers, the children, and the young adults proceeding from Christian families in many, or indeed almost all, of our churches! (And I speak with confidence in saying all, for one may safely surmise that the families who attend the public assembly only upon the Sabbath have fathers who do not lead their households in daily, intentional worship within their homes!) This barren spiritual state, this terrible lack of filial devotion, doth stem entirely from the unfulfilled, sacred obligations of the parents. They have grievously failed in the Divine charge to rear their household in the Holy Scriptures and in the profound, saving fear of the LORD. Woe unto that parent who seeks only the physical provision for his children while allowing their souls to starve! We will be joining the churches of Lubbock Reformed Church, Grace Covenant Reformed Church, and some from Vanguard Presbytery, for a thanksgiving fast this coming 29th of December to worship the God of heaven and earth for His bountiful blessings, His exceedingly gracious answers to prayer this past year, for taking us to deeper waters, and to petition His mighty hand for the coming year.  May we see greater manifestations of His grace in our daily family worship, our personal devotions, our deepening of the faith, our desire to know Him daily through His Word, and to remain in constant awe at His majesty and mercy.

The children's Genesis book study comes to a close ( by the Lord's grace), and anticipation is high as we announced the start of our Exodus study next week Lord willing.  This is our second major review of the events taken up from creation all the way to Joseph. The study of Genesis was a great opportunity to thoroughly explain that God created only male and female, to talk about the perversion that is homosexuality, and its modern day attempt to corrupt children's minds and destroy the family.  Today's reviews were about the experiential application of Scripture. To teach them how to react biblically regarding scenarios with their family, friends, about forgiveness, telling the truth, the evils of lying and cursing, and Christ's finished work on the cross being the only way back to God apart from works.That salvation is through Christ alone. It was very humbling to hear them answering advanced trivia about Genesis and about our catechism studies. Here the children ...

It is observed that certain parents of the children in our charge also permit them to attend neighboring assemblies, which are often governed more by the practice of distributing earthly gifts to the attendees. Yet, it hath been the source of great and humble encouragement to us that the teachers within those very congregations are often struck with surprise and awe. They find that our children know the books of the Sacred Scriptures far more thoroughly than their instructors, and moreover, can explain their way through the intricate Genesis narrative with a clarity that testifies to true spiritual apprehension. This is a gratuitous sign of blessing upon our humble efforts. It confirms the eternal truth that the giving of mere gifts fades away, but the faithful implanting of sound, biblical doctrine doth yield a fruit that cannot be denied or easily suppressed by the world's passing novelties. The LORD, in His great and enduring faithfulness, doth continue to prosper His own labour in our midst! We mark with deep gratitude the growth of our young assembly this very week, recalling that this work began with but a handful of children in our class. I declare with unwavering certainty that my heart shall never grow weary of emphasizing this marvelous truth: We did but humbly petition our Heavenly Father to commence a work amongst the families residing within this compound; and yet, the Father hath answered us abundantly, exceeding even the bounds of our own asking, by powerfully drawing the little children unto Himself! It is becoming clear, by the gracious unfolding of His design, that the true and lasting change in these households will first affect the younger generation, and that the work of regeneration shall originate within the quiet sanctuary of their own domestic life, rather than being forced upon them from the external world.
