Worthless Religion

Talkative people have a deep need to be heard. Its a defense mechanism that is fearful of appearing ignorant before people, that they know little. They have no one who would listen to them, so they would rather talk than listen. An unlearned person who checks his mouth is wiser than the educated babbler.  And so without thinking they talk, to appear wiser than they truly are. Thus, many well meaning Christians who have this 'talent' have both wounded others, and have been ruined by this. One time a woman told Spurgeon, 'My talent is to speak my mind,' to which he replied, 'Woman, God wouldn't care one bit if you would bury that talent.' Hence the conclusion of this short matter: her religion is worthless, who does not bridle her mouth.  James 1:26  If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Proverbs 18:2  A fool takes no pleasure in understanding but only in disclosi

Asking For The Divine

Facebook Post. May 27th, 2020. "The life of a Christian is filled up with the interchanges of sickness and health, weakness and strength, want and wealth, disgrace and honor, crosses and comforts, miseries and mercies, joys and sorrows, mirth and mourning. All honey would harm us; all wormwood would undo us - a composition of both is the best way in the world to keep our souls in healthy constitution.. And though every wind that blows, shall blow good to the saints, yet for certain their sins die most, and their graces thrive best when they are under the frigid, drying, nipping wind of calamity, as well as under the warm, nourishing wind of mercy and prosperity. But God, who is infinite in wisdom and matchless in goodness, has ordered troubles, yes, many troubles to come trooping in upon us on every side. As our mercies, so our crosses rarely come single; they usually come treading one upon the heels of another; they are like April showers, no sooner is one troubl

Psalm 73

Facebook Post. April 19th, 2020. There was a time when I had nowhere else to go. Every step I took was a mistake. I envied people who despite having no God were well-off, when I saw how prosperous they've become even as drunkards. They do not suffer, and are always well-fed. They do not have the same problems as common men; their stockrooms are always full. Not only that, but they can afford to be arrogant. To do as they wish and go where they wish. Their prosperity causes them to commit wrong; their thoughts are always about pleasuring self. They talk down on other people; they can afford to threaten and sue others. They speak as if they can buy what they want, and lay claim to anyone they want. Therefore, they have more than enough food to eat, more than enough friends to drink with, and sometimes, even take what is not theirs. They say, “What do you mean God sees what I do? Is God even aware of what goes on? And besides, I'm not a religious bigot. God loves

This Generation

Facebook Post. May 3rd, 2020. A PARAPHRASED REPOST Welcome to the world today. Where sex is free and love is expensive. Where losing your phone is more painful than losing your virginity. Where being modern means showing off your body to people you don't know for the sake of likes and follows. Where being profane is to feel you belong. Where boys remain boys and refuse to become men, and girls become men so they can rule over them. Where divorce and annulment is easier than to fight for your marriage. Where if you don't fool your partner you're not clever enough. Where bathrooms have become photo studios. Where pizza delivery is faster than emergency response. Where people fear thieves and terrorists more than God. Where worshiping God is difficult. Where churches have become party venues. Where lies become realities. Where if the truth goes against people's bias it's called a conspiracy. Where ladies fear pregnancy than contracting a disease out

The Preservation of the Saints

Image
Facebook Post. May 21st, 2019 There is nothing I can do that God should save me. There is nothing I can do that God would lose me.  John 10:28-29 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man take them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to take them out of my Father's hand.   Psalms 97:10 ..he preserves the souls of his saints;

Jacobin

Facebook Post. May 21st, 2020 In my fourth year high school, my history teacher (now deceased) said something that stuck with me. He said, "If the government mandates laws outside the constitution that go against the good of the people, it is an evil government. A Jacobin revolution is in order." Much like autoimmune disease where the body goes to war with itself, the diseased system is now presently at war with its citizenry. Pushing the situation to a position of desperation, so much so that society will clamor for any quick fix without question and thought just to get everything back to the way they were. The "remedy" is just around the corner. Its already been there at the same time the problem was created. They had to create a problem to sell the solution. They just need to let the people bleed out a little more to have them begging for the solution without questioning it. This is what it is coming to. Did not Christ warn us that the wind blowin

Rejection

Image
Losing. Conceding. Being weak. Being despised and laughed at. Being maligned. Being singled out. Rejection. Desperation. Hopelessness. Failure. Defeat. Giving up. People naturally want none of these. Perhaps it explains why many people today are merely on survival mode or on auto-pilot. Without control. Fearful. But still trying. Turning to religion instead either to find answers or maintain an outward appearance of piety. It is possible to know a lot about God, without knowing Him intimately. The world may look down on such situations, but it is only in these times that Christ comes to reveal himself to people, to those who are at the end of their rope. So next time when people curse you, bless them. When they shout at you, give them a gentle answer. When you feel like engaging an argument, stop. Breathe. Concede. Consider people to be better than you in everything. Exchange your frustrations for His peace. Meekness is a far greater virtue than winning. Af

A Different Jesus

Facebook Post. Jun 3rd, 2020. The bible describes a different Jesus from what I knew as a Roman Catholic. I was taught a Jesus who is distant, unmindful, and oblivious. Who operates in red tape bureaucracy that His earthly 'mother' is more approachable, more merciful, and more powerful. A Jesus bruised a bit here and there forever hanging defeated on a cross, white and pale, with eyes that cannot see and ears that cannot hear. Once a year during holy week this Jesus dies, and every mass He is sacrificed again and again in vain and for whatever reason, I do not know. I only knew I had to hear mass, eat a wafer, be sorry when a priest is present - but I'm free to do whatever pleases me. I can hate members of my family, I can swear, I can watch what I want, I can do what I want, I can lie, I can take sides with a thief, - I just need to do rituals. That's it. A Jesus that offers absolutely no hope in death. I just need to have money to pay a priest to say pray

Sunday

Image
Facebook post. October 7th, 2020.   Sunday is the national day of hypocrisy for many professing Christians. It is when churches are filled with people singing songs they do not mean, talking about a holiness they do not want to live out, and worshiping a God they do not know. The difference between the things you say and the things you mean, is found in what you are prepared to sacrifice for it. Yes, you can give gifts and everything else to anyone, but not your very life. Why? Because you only give this to the one you truly love. Mark 12:30 ..thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Matthew 10:37-39 He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that takes not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me. He who finds his life shall lose it: and he who

The 70th

We have an appalling tendency to lose ourselves with work. Not that it is something new for me, but I have had such an experience these past months. I never expected that my load would more than double when I stepped down from the corporate world, mistakingly thinking that family life and ministry will be easier. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There were recent negative circumstances that somehow worked out for good, as it  "forced" me into reopening our family devotion. Father has been continually stretching out new horizons for me. First, no family should be without a devotional life. Back in the days when families took Christianity seriously, devotions came right after dinner. The dishes were set aside for washing, and the father of the house took his rightful place as priest and pastor, teaching scripture to the entire household. And after this and the dishes, the mother would in turn tuck the children in their beds, and spend another hour teaching them further

A shallow view of prayer will ask for a lighter cross, an instant release. It bows down to the mockings of the world, "Come down from the cross and save yourself! What a ridiculous thing for you to carry a cross at this day and age of instant gratification."  But to intercede in behalf of God's will for the present situation is divine. "Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake." Psalms 115:1 Focusing on the weight of the cross rather than the privilege of carrying it robs us of the glory at the end, delays our maturity in God's graces, and makes cowards out of men who were called to be fearless soldiers.  Don't pray to be spared from pain. Pain to the true believer is the road that drives him further into the mercies of God and opens to him fresh revelations of His truth. Pray instead to be spared from temptation. Don't pray to be spared from persecution, it is God's hand to stre

On his way to our outreach in Susano Market Novaliches last week, Jhet took this route to Zabarte and passed by this perfect place. This long street was full of people from end to end, having two supermarkets alongside one another and a main intersection at the head. And so it pleased the LORD to enable us to travel back to minister here. We met up to fetch Moureen early at Muzon and took the longer route via SM Tunko, making a turn at Malaria to arrive at this exciting place. Another brother who joined us last week was again on his way here to join us. We wasted no time in asking a nearby enforcer if we can stand by the sidewalk to preach. Neil finally made it halfway through the pleading, commuting 5 long rides from Pasig City just to join us. Bless his heart. Both these precious souls are fruits of the LORD's work with this ministry. We have been marvelously gifted with young people who have a burning passion to bring the gospel to the people. Another dau

Return To Hometown

Image
We returned to Novaliches to finally fulfill my burden for this particular place. A good 56 kilometer trip under the blazing summer heat. The original plan was to meet up Jet in Muzon, Bulacan by 7 AM and travel together to our target. But after waiting for 30 minutes as providence would have it, we proceeded without our brother. In spite of having apprehensions that my and daughter and I would have to labor alone today, I left the matter to the LORD. We arrived around 9:30 AM and received a message from home that the brothers were already on their way. I thanked Father. But being unfamiliar with all the changes the place had undergone, I realized there was no familiar spot where we can meet. I also had no communication with them. So I asked Father to lead the brothers to where we were. Surely enough, after some time waiting He did. Making our way inside the wet market we were guided to this particular street behind the main road. The crowd had already started thinning out by this time

But I Found None

Rom 9:2,3  That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my countrymen, my fellows according to the flesh:  Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for (the Philippines) is, that they might be saved. However impossible it is for dead people to turn their heads upon hearing quickening words of the Life there is nothing amiss to desire to do good to those who are totally against and helplessly indifferent to the Gospel of Christ. To yearn for the good of the blind, though they return to you apathy, and even sometimes hatred. Becoming a foolish spectacle in the public square may seem to be a futile venture, but we may all the more plead for God to redeem His name before the people. The subject in question is reduced to a question of when not if. For God WILL redeem His name, and the knowledge of Him will cover the whole earth as the waters cover the sea.  No word of God is spoken in vain. He ha

God's Providence

Image
Journal entry. Early morning 2.37AM. 8th of April. Book study.   The providence of God is highly irregular to the world, and oftentimes even to His church. But what we conceive as self-centered creatures to be a disadvantage, God uses for His glory. There is nothing that happens that is not for that very purpose.  Men will readily nod in agreement to this, but their prayer concerns speak differently of a God who is not aware of what happens to His children. We half believe in God's providence only to the point that it is beneficial to us. We believe His providence when it blesses us, but then ask to remove all and every instance of it, when it weighs us down. We bless God for common grace, and rightfully so, but question His hand when common life is disturbed. We question His hand when good people are brought low, and evil people are exalted. It seems to be out of order when the very people of God languish in sickness, afflictions, and poverty - yet we acknowledge at the same time
