Iscariot
Judas was a disciple, but he was an almost Christian. He heard the best preaching. He preached repentance. He saw Christ perform great miracles, and was given the power to perform some as well. He spent time with, ate with, walked with, and lived with Jesus. More than any Christian would have the privilege to. But when things werent going well and Christ laid down the consequences of following Him, everyone quit. To pay for time lost and damages to his future plans, he decided to cash in on Jesus, and sold Him for money.
He was deliberately chosen not because he was good, nor had he potential to be good, but because he was a devil, a thief, and a traitor. He walked with conviction, but was not converted. He was moral before men, but immoral before God. Christ was appointed to die, but somebody was also appointed to betray him. That lot fell on a man who was already a traitor from the very beginning, Judas.
Christ said, not everyone who professes my name will enter the kingdom of heaven. Some will contest their good and wonderful deeds, I will confess to them, away from me you filth. I never knew you. (Matthew 7:21-23)
Apart from the grace of God through Christ, I am no different from Judas. All of humanity typifies Judas. Many who profess Christ, like Judas, have also exchanged Christ for the world, or at least lived in both the world and in religion. The evil in the world outside is the same filth that infests my flesh, wherewith there is no good thing. The only good in me, if ever I do good, is Christ.
God Almighty, does not throw dice.
