Daily Devotional and Scripture Memorization

I regularly receive email from Voice of the Martyrs and was truly blessed with this particular one that I thought I might share it here to exhort the brethren into digging deeper into the word. To quote from the VOM site:
"Iran’s Islamic government is among the most oppressive regimes in the world, and Christians there face constant threat of imprisonment. Many Christians gather in secret or receive teaching through Christian media smuggled into the country, while others watch satellite television programs that broadcast the gospel and offer discipleship training in Farsi. Bibles are highly restricted in Iran; it is illegal to import them or to print them inside the country. Since they are so difficult to obtain, Bibles are treasured by Iranian believers."

It is difficult to imagine being a believer under this kind of rule, but we are accountable for the freedom we enjoy in having unrestricted access to the word of God, and it would be prudent to assume we will not always have it. This collection is what our Iranian brethren have memorized inside jails and detention. We should prepare for what is coming, and do serious study with the word of God, that we may stand on solid ground. As the saying for owning a gun goes, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. The word of God is our sword. Scripture establishes a practice for those who love the LORD in Psalms 1:2 where it says, But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

I myself am not familiar with any particular passage's book, chapter, and verse, but I know the passages by heart. I have trouble with memorization more than the average person but there's every advantage in making an effort to change this. Only 5 memory verses a day will arm you with 140 verses in a month. Imagine the treasure you will have in a year! My wife and I, along with the children, have taken to this endeavor in memorizing scripture for the whole day as we tend to our chores and do an examination in the evening. If you would also like to do yourself a great favor visit the link below and simply provide your email, and you will instantly be given access to download a PDF of the list. You will not regret it.

In addition to the list I would also like to share my own daily devotional reading, inspired by Arthur Pink's method, but adjusted to my own preferences.

3 Chapters from the OLD TESTAMENT. Repeat.
3 Chapters from the GOSPELS. Repeat.
5 Chapters from the PSALMS. Repeat.
1 Chapter from PROVERBS. Repeat.
5 Chapters from ACTS to REVELATION. Repeat.

In this way I do not have to wait to finish the old to get to the new, but I can read both simultaneously and in between. By reading just one chapter of Proverbs a day, I will have read through the book 12 times in a year, and the bible numerous times. The memorization is added for meditation the whole day, on top of the devotional reading.

May this be of help to someone. All glory to God alone.
