The Slippery Slope

Take a good, long, and hard look. Let it sink in. I mean really sink it in.

This is where most good intentions, good ambitions, good marriages, good romance, good relationships, good dreams, and good people go; people like your close relatives, your sweet husband, your beautiful wife, your loving father, or your caring mother, your son or your daughter, your brother, your sister, your niece, your nephew, your best friend, your co-worker, your classmate, or your neighbor. Everyone you know living the ordinary life from day to day. Both the religious and the atheist. The priest and the devotee. The pastor and the church attendee. Basically, hell is full of good people. Good people who went through life thinking that as long as they mind their own business in peace, do no harm to anyone, be charitable and help people, that everything will be alright and hopefully they earn a free pass. Good people who believe that by doing good they can hope to go to heaven. Heaven is the pursuit even of the carnal. Even if they will admit that they aren't certain about anything that happens when they breathe their last, they'll either utterly deny it, or make up some explanation about how they don't deserve to end up in the abyss. What eludes them is the fact that you don't really have to do anything evil to end up here, you just have to put the thought of Christ on the back seat, have a bit of religion to ease the conscience, and live a normal life.

This preview is for the proud person. No, you don't have to be the bragging type to be boastful, you only have to take control of your own life and it counts as the same. In doing so, you are denying your very Creator the glory he could get out of the life he lent to you. In the same sense that you can do whatever you want with anything that you own, he can do whatever he wants with you because he owns you. Because he made you. You are living on borrowed breath. You are alive only because he allows you. The worst thing is not hell, its missing out on knowing God for who he is through his Christ. The best thing is not going to heaven, its in knowing God for who he is through his Christ. The surest way to lose everything in the end, is to spend your life pursuing it.

This preview is also for the believer, or Christ follower, for the professing Christian. Know that on that day when the Lord parts his sheep from the goats, a lot of fingers will be pointing at you for having blood on your hands, for withholding your breath from warning people you know who will end up here for fear of offending them. For caring more about the world's opinion rather than the advancement of the Kingdom of Christ which is sure to come. Those who will be part of the group of sleeping virgins, so-called "Christians", void of the Holy Spirit in their earthly vessels.

Both the evil, and the redeemed, I believe, will weep on that day, ipon discovering all the riches and power that was readily available to us while on earth, and arriving at heaven's door looking almost like a pauper. We really have no idea who God is. If we did, we would spend almost all of our waking moment pleading before Him day and night, if not for our sins, then for the people who are without Christ. It sickens me to see Christians, I include myself, find something else better to do, some fun project or program, some accomplishment to boast about on the internet, than seeking the face of God. One whole lifetime is not enough to pursue the truth about God - how many precious seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years have we wasted living life as usual. While my neighbors sulk in not getting what they want, I grieve that I am not able to say with my whole heart, that I love God, and that he takes singular priority in my life. Each day I neglect to be on my knees, people slip into a Christ-less eternity. May God have mercy on me.

Understand that Christ is first and foremost in the mind of the Father. There is no one more important than Jesus Christ. He is the center of everything. All things were both created by him and for him. Through him the world and everything in it was created.. Through him the true nature of the Father is revealed to the world. Through him the world is redeemed, and through him the world and everyone who has ever walked upon it will be judged righteously. The most severe of all punishment awaits those who lived despising the very one for whom and through whom the world was created. In refusing him to be the Lord of your life, you have lost the only Savior there is. And if Christ is not your Savior, then you are, of all creatures, most miserable and lost.

Stare at this now. See your loved ones in there. Forever burning, never dying. Can you honestly think of anything or anyone in the world worth going here for? Eternity is a long time to be wrong. If you can still sleep soundly after this while knowing you are without Christ, or the world around you is yet without Christ, then I have no words for you. The time is short. It really is. It's as short as a minute from now. God knows how much time we, I, have already wasted so much sitting around idly.

Somebody wise once said, This generation of Christians is responsible for this generation of unbelievers.
