Kindness

Thoughts. 12th of July. 2022 Journal Entry.

In the 2nd century, Tertullian wrote, the pagans of that time were so amazed at the kindness exhibited by the followers of a character called Christ that they were called Chrestiani, the kind people. Not Christiani, the sect.

Often in our ministering of truth, through our corrupted character and personality, we tend to lean only to the side of truth and truth alone, neglecting that Christ is not only all truth, He is also all kindness, all gentleness, all meekness, and all lowliness. To administer truth without kindness is to take the parts of scripture designed to heal and use it to wound instead. It takes a proud heart to be all true. It takes a lowly heart to be both true and kind.

There is one great truth: the LORD God is one. And there are two great commandments: You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There are no greater commandments than these. (Matthew 22:36-40)

Not one commandment. Two.
To neglect one is to misunderstand both.
