Parada Cemetery

After the first location, taking the familiar route that leads toward the Saint Joseph burial ground in San Jose del Monte, passing near the bounds of San Nicolas, my attention was arrested by a sight most unexpected: a great throng of souls gathered at the entrance of a cemetery hitherto unnoticed and hidden from my sight, despite my frequent passing.

Truly, the hand of divine providence was unmistakably at work on that ground, for this quiet, obscure corner—hitherto deserted—was now animated by a continuous and steady stream of souls, moving both in and out. Having fulfilled my small duty within the sacred enclosure, distributing my meager handful of tracts to those remembering their dead, I felt a sudden, holy stirring of the spirit. I made my humble approach to the constabulary officers stationed at the portal. With a bowed heart, I requested their  permission to proclaim the eternal Word to the assembled multitude. To my profound astonishment and gratitude, these men of earthly authority did not oppose this sacred impulse; nay, but rather with an encouraging earnestness, they urged me to proceed with the blessed task! Thus, it was that the Lord enabled me to once again lift the standard of His truth, with a circle of the Barangay officials and these officers of the law serving as my initial, and indeed most solemn, audience.

The urgent message of Divine Judgment and the glorious promise of Redemption was sounded forth with clarity, its powerful echoes carrying far into the sacred resting-place. Let us give thanks for the open door which the Lord grants, even in the most unlikely and hidden corners of our land.

Though the hour had advanced past eight of the evening, and my spirit was still inclined toward seeking a third venue for the day's proclamation, the conscience of duty prevailed. I surrendered the immediate call of the public field and chose instead to direct my steps homeward, so that I might not fail to keep the appointed time for Family Worship. It is in the faithful observance of this sacred covenant within our own dwelling that the true piety of the Christian is confirmed. The zeal for the outer world must never eclipse the precious obligation to gather one's own household beneath the blessed light of the Word.

Good is the LORD indeed.
