Back In The Front

Was mercifully enabled by the Spirit to plead this afternoon with the people confined in the recesses of this bleak market in  Santa Maria, Bulacan. As preaching turned to pleading, my heart went out to these precious souls living in hopelessness and darkness, alienated from God, without a Savior. Painful also to realize that other cults, whose main business is to ask the people for money, frequent this area as well. This cruel practice made the people disdain the Gospel even more, and created an impression that all preachers are only after money. We make it a point to remind the people never to give money to anyone preaching on the streets. This always seem to break through their defensive demeanor - when we make it a point to discourage them from giving, it puts us on the same side as they are, and makes them want to listen to what we have to say. It then opens up a door for the Gospel to do its work.

The Spirit arrested not a few people with the word. Blank faces staring into nothing. Bowed heads. The atmosphere was raucous and loud, but from time to time there is a noticeable lowering of the usual noise. After an hour's worth of courting them with the consequences of willful rebellion and God's offer of reconciliation through the cross of Christ, the crowd in front of me thanked us with heartfelt gratitude. May the LORD open a door for us to take the church to the people.
