The New Normal

I took my beloved wife on a date to a not so romatic place: a gun range here in Valenzuela, Bulacan. We were both ecstatic with the experience of breaking in my personal piece, as part of our commitment to responsibility in handling the weapon, which from now on will become part of the household. I am also educating the children in safety and handling, and will also take them here to experience it for themselves and become comfortable with it.

Owning a weapon is similar to owning a vehicle. You need to be able to handle it responsibly for it to function as intended without causing unnecessary harm to anyone. It is a privilege, not a right to own one, and we are blessed that our government encourages and even assists its citizens by simplifying the process to acquire weapons, unlike in other countries where their governments are trying to disarm its own citizens, even going as far as brutally sacrificing the lives of its children to justify its banning the acquisition of weapons.

Guns are often misunderstood by the unlearned as it is always associated with killing and murder. Far from it. If that is the case then we should also put vehicles and kitchen items in the same category. By understanding its proper handling, fear is replaced by responsibility. I want my children to be able to handle their own someday so we are starting early.

The author went through the legitimate process of acquiring the license to own a weapon and another license to carry it outside the residence.
